Animated Explainer

Cochrane

Cochrane approached Cartel to create an explainer film that could communicate the role of evidence-based healthcare to a broad audience.Their work involves reviewing and analysing large volumes of medical research before that evidence reaches healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public. Communicating that process clearly while maintaining scientific credibility shaped much of the project.

The film follows an expectant mother searching for information during pregnancy, creating a connection between research, healthcare professionals, and the people ultimately affected by healthcare decisions. As the story progresses, viewers move through the systems, evidence, and expertise that support those decisions behind the scenes.

Storyboard

Cartel led the project from concept development through to final delivery, including scripting, storyboarding, illustration, art direction, animation, and sound design.

The visual language expanded on Cochrane's existing brand palette and introduced a cast of internationally representative characters. Illustration and motion were used to translate complex ideas into clear visual sequences, helping audiences understand how evidence moves from research environments into clinical practice and patient care.

Styleframes

By following a single healthcare journey, the film shows how evidence moves from research into real-world care. The project brought together strategy, illustration, motion, and narrative design to communicate a subject that is often difficult to visualise.
